Bernadette OFarrell

Irish-born actress Bernadette O’Farrell, who starred as Maid Marian in the 1950s TV series “The Adventures of Robin Hood,” died in late September, the Daily Telegraph of London reported on Sept. 29. She was 75.

Married to British screenwriter Frank Launder, she often appeared in film roles written by her husband and achieved a measure of popularity during the mid-1950s when she co-starred in the “Robin Hood” TV series.

Created for Sir Lew Grade’s television company, it was one of the first British TV series to be successful in America and, ironically, featured numerous episodes written by blacklisted Hollywood scribe Ring Lardner Jr.

O’Farrell, who portrayed Marian in 78 episodes, left the show after a two-year stint for fear of being typecast.

Additional film credits included “Lady Godiva Rides Again,” “Life in Her Hands,” “The Happiest Days of your Life” and “The Genie.”

Popular on Variety

O’Farrell and her husband spent much of their time together in Monaco where he died in 1997 and where she is thought to have died.

She is survived by two daughters.
