Drugs And Taser Found In Poole Flat

A woman, whose flat was closed by Magistrates in 2009 following ongoing anti-social behaviour and drug activity, has been convicted of five counts, including three drugs charges and one firearms charge.

Nadia Hassan, 29, of Ringwood Road, Poole, was found guilty of possession of class A drugs, possession of class A drugs with intent to supply, being concerned in the supply of heroin, possession of criminal property and possession of an illegal weapon at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday 19 May 2011.

Hassan was arrested in August 2009, after police found one-and-a-half ounces of heroin near her previous residence – a flat in Lagland Street, Poole. The heroin had been thrown from a window.

Safer Neighbourhood officers also found a taser (an illegal weapon) and just under £4,000 in cash during a search of the property.

Following reports from members of the public about drug activity and related anti-social behaviour at the Lagland Street flat, Poole Town and Oakdale Safer Neighbourhood Team and Poole Housing Partnership took out a closure order – under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 – and it was subsequently closed for three months.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team worked on the case from the beginning, collecting evidence to support both the closure order and the conviction.

Sergeant Billy Bulloch, who leads the team, said:

"Drug misuse and anti-social behaviour has a massive impact on the community and can affect the quality of life of surrounding residents.

"This conviction shows that we take reports of drug abuse and anti-social behaviour seriously."

Hassan is due to be sentenced in July.
