Rocky Movies Drop From Netflix on July 1, Then Will Return Aug. 1

AMC to air 'Rocky' marathon of first five films July 3-4, with repeat viewings later in month

Yo, Adrian!

The first five “Rocky” films starring Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa are scheduled to expire from Netflix‘s streaming service as of July 1 — but after a one-month hiatus, will return on Aug. 1, according to a Netflix rep.

The MGM films include 1976’s “Rocky,” which won three Academy Awards: best picture, director for John G. Avildsen and film editing; as well as “Rocky II” (1979), “Rocky III” (1982), “Rocky IV” (1985) and “Rocky V” (1990). The sixth movie in the franchise, 2006’s “Rocky Balboa,” has not been available on the streaming service.

Asked why the films were rolling off, then returning, the Netflix rep said the streaming service is “dynamic” and that the content lineup changes almost daily.

AMC is scheduled to launch a marathon of the first five “Rocky” movies starting at 9 a.m. ET on July 3 with “Rocky,” followed at 11:30 a.m. with “Rocky II” and at 2 p.m. with “Rocky III.” On July 4, “Rocky IV” airs at midnight ET, followed by “Rocky V” at 2 a.m. The cabler also will run the five films later in the month.
